CHEF MARLAW SERASPI  vs. CHEF TARA MONSOD

Meet Chef Marlaw Seraspi. Culinary Extraordinaire & One of Two Competing Chefs for Boodle Fight: Round 4!!! Born in the Aklan province of the Philippines, Marlaw is no stranger to the flavors and culture Filipinos have to offer. Once he moved state-side, he first planted roots in the San Francisco Bay area and Sac town, gaining his education at the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco. During his time there, he began work with Michael Mina in both San Jose and SF before moving to San Diego in 2006 to open ‘Blanca’ in Solana Beach. With the Blanca group, he had the honor of cooking a special dinner at the James Beard house in NYC, and shortly after decided to move back to the bay in 2008 to sharpen his culinary craft. He rejoined the Mina group and did a few short stints with various restaurants, including Commis in Oakland. In 2012, he was offered the opportunity to move back to SD to help create the Hageman Restaurant Group, to which he gladly accepted, and opened 3 restaurants in the process as Executive Chef. Marlaw spends his quality time these days with his family, staying busy in-between helping friends and colleagues in the industry, as he works currently on a project of his own - a filipino concept that's been a dream of his for quite some time now, hoping to open by early next year.

Meet Chef Tara Luansing Monsod. Executive Chef of Tender Greens Downtown & One of Two Competing Chefs for Boodle Fight: Round 4!!! Born in Hollywood, CA, raised as a child of the streets of LA, Tara was no stranger to the diverse food culture Los Angeles had to offer. From street food to fine dining, she owes her love of food to her parents and grandparents exposing her not only to local cuisine, but especially in surrounding her with a family of great cooks. She started her collegiate education through Cal State Northridge, then decided to try at a nursing degree. After graduating, she quickly realized though skilled in the medical field, that her true passion would take her to San Diego in 2008. After achieving a Culinary Arts degree at the Art Institute of San Diego in 2011, she continued her already thriving work at Tender Greens, opening several locations & simultaneously working in premier restaurants like Herringbone, Burlap, Mozza, and Juniper & Ivy ... and now holds stake as Executive Chef for Tender Greens in Downtown, San Diego. Tara has always been proud to be Filipina and has always had a special place in her heart for filipino cuisine and how much family is connected to it. Being a part of representing her Filipino roots through events like ULAM, and other FIL- AM events of the like, she is excited for the future for our community and what we have to share with the people in our lovely city.
